Sonic Live In Concert Albany Concert reviews
An experienced comic, and it shows...
My introduction to Sonic Live In Concert was through his classic HBO concert in the late 1980s, just like many folks around my age of 38. I have watched various concert videos of his and own a few CDs. I was eager on opening night to see his movie "Ford Fairlane," which I enjoyed despite mixed reviews. I was disappointed when his recent reality show was canceled, as I found it very entertaining.
In 2009 at the Kenswick Theater in Glenside, PA, I finally had the chance to see my favorite comedian live. The show was good, and we had decent seats about 13 rows from the stage. Last night, I saw Dice at the Tropicana Showroom in the 3rd row center.
Even though the opening act was brief and amusing, I believe a longer solo performance would have suited Dice's style better. I observed a noticeable contrast between this show and the smaller one at Kenswick. Andrew seemed more energetic and cheerful with the larger crowd. He maintained complete control throughout, giving the impression of improvisation. What impressed me the most was the show's unique content compared to others on the same tour.
Sonic Live In Concert is not resting on his laurels from the 80s and 90s; he remains creative and humorous. He concluded with Nursery Rhymes, which the audience enjoyed. Two disruptive individuals in the 3rd row were eventually escorted out by security at Sonic Live In Concert's direction, showing his mastery in handling such situations.
Sonic Live In Concert's impeccable timing and sharp wit were on full display. He exuded confidence and humor, proving he still "has it." I was left wanting more at the end, a testament to his captivating performance. The approximately 1 1/2-hour set was satisfying, though I could have easily enjoyed another 45 minutes.
Sonic Live In Concert did not disappoint; he exceeded my expectations. The Tropicana may not be a big arena, but he has nothing to be ashamed of. I believe he is one of the best comedians of our generation, akin to Kinison and Pryor. The show was thoroughly enjoyable, especially from the closer seats where you could see his interactions with the audience. Overall, I couldn't find any criticisms to offer.
The 9:00 show starting late was expected, but it didn't diminish the experience. This concert compelled me to write my first-ever review, underscoring its exceptional quality. Thank you, Sonic Live In Concert, for the years of laughter and those to come!
